We all want a strong and growing Saskatchewan,

but we've got a problem...

Right now, some rural municipalities are making it hard for our province to attract investment and get ahead. Uncompetitive taxes and a lack of transparency pose a real risk to our economic recovery.

Fortunately, there’s a simple solution – the provincial government can implement competitive and transparent municipal taxes now.

Call on the provincial government to act today.

We Believe in
Saskatchewan

We support the province’s 2020-2030 Growth Plan and want more investment, jobs, and exports for a healthy economy and stronger communities.

THE SOLUTION:

Fair and transparent municipal taxes

We’re advocating for two main changes to the province’s property tax systems:

#1

Competitive, fair,
predictable taxes

Limit the range of the effective mill rate (EMR) ratio on all property classes from 0.75 to 2.0 in order to produce a more equitable distribution of the property tax burden among the various classes.

This change ensures our natural resource, manufacturing and construction sectors won’t unfairly incur the burden of property tax increases.

#2

More transparency
and accountability

This change will ensure financial data is easily accessible by requiring all municipalities to post their public accounts online.

Improve municipalities’ financial transparency by bringing into force Section 185.1 under The Municipalities Act and expeditiously creating regulations that require reporting of key financial data.
